The boundaries are important. He doesn't want to get rid of Theo entirely. He wants Theo to exist as a reminder of his past experiences, but not as his authority. The inner critic can be there, but it shouldn't have the final say. Those boundaries are crucial. He's not trying to eliminate Theo completely. That might be impossible instead. He says, You may continue to exist as a record of what I endured and what I learned early in life, but you do not get to be my authority. The inner critic can exist, but it doesn't get to be the final voice.
