I Know a Wilderness Within

I know wilderness within A no man's land, a dry empire Where jackal with a rictus grin Pulls out a heart tangled in wire I toss upon a sea of black Lit by a metal sky And no new stars by which to track And no progress to identify And no ballast to my soul And no conviction to hold me right I might pitch from side to side I might capsize in the night And if my fever breaks with you Slippery and adhered to me I might say things that might be true And I might not be so damn lonely
