The team discusses their original business plans before pivots. Vali initially planned a hair and nail salon but shifted focus to nails due to easier maintenance. Hamzah's cleaning app idea didn't address all cleaning needs. Omar had an ambitious idea involving core business operations and sharing experiences, like endorsing a local chef. They reflect on their initial ideas and the need to address the right problems effectively.
All right, let's move on. Let's talk about original plans. Let's rewind a bit. Before the pivots, before the user testing home with us, what did we think our initial MVPs were supposed to be? Vali, let's start with you. Well, thank you. So I have started my business plan in 2021. I was starting business in college back then, and the original plan was for a hair and nail salon. Back then, I was more passionate about hair, and that's because I wasn't getting my nails done often.
I know, it's weird. So I wanted my business to involve that. While I was completing my hairdressing work experience, I ended up being more interested in what the nail technician was doing in that place, rather than hairdresser. And not having to hear the blow dryer go on all the time, it's so pitiful. And it is so much easier to keep your workspace clean when doing just nails, while with doing hair, you have foils, colors, brushes laying around, and me personally, it kind of triggered me.
So after that, I had a new flame light up inside me. And that determination turned into passion. And the passion turned into a complete different business plan. So Hamzah, your turn. What's the 1.0 version in your hand? Okay, so my first idea was honestly just a cleaning app. I assume students mainly struggled with mess, thus I made cleaning easier. The problem was solved, but it was me getting non-listening. I thought convenience meant someone cleans your room, and that's it.
I didn't realize the real chaos was laundry pilling up, repairs, no one has time for, and the stress of juggling three different services. My first idea was simple, but it wasn't the right problem. So my friend Omar, how did Lulu wear you at the start? Hi, I appreciate it, Hamzah. Well, my original plan for my idea was quite ambitious from the start. I still kept some of the core business operations in the idea since it's been working, so it happens to be a very solid foundation for the business.
Like I said, it was basically giving an experience that I wanted to share with people, and one of the ideas wasn't working as much as I wanted to, like maybe sponsoring and endorsing an aspiring chef locally. Wait, hold up, fuck, man.
